Completed this very unique solid walnut railing with hand forged iron balusters.
Each baluster began as a 18" long solid 1x1" square bar and was forged by a local black smith into these 40" long balusters that taper from 1x1" square to a .5" round solid rod. The blacksmith even forged a .5" tenon into the bottom of each balusters to sink them in the floor.
We hand carved the walnut transitions at the top and bottom to connect the railing sections on the upstairs opening and the stair angle.
This one was very tedious and challenging.
The balusters are finished with linseed oil and the oval walnut railing has satin polyurethane.
Glad to see this one completed!
